Board of Directors
Auckland Fringe

I'm honoured to have been invited onto the Board of Directors for the Auckland Fringe.
My remit covers Event Strategy and I will contribute to:

  • Developing a long term Strategic Plan
  • Large-scale event production experience
  • Supporting the development of a Fringe appropriate Commercial revenue model

Working with Tauranga City Council to deliver the first ever Street Art festival, collaborating with Oi! You! Artistic Directors.
Paradox Inside, Paradox Outside and Paradox Live take over the city for 12 weeks

Responsible for Contacting, Scheduling and Managing 100 volunteers over a 8 day festival period at Great Lake Taupo.

Between Sep 2008 and Sep 2016, I was the Head of Entertainment & Events for Edinburgh University Students Association.

I led a team of 60 technical production, box office, and admin staff, and was part of the management team that looked after all commercial aspects of the £9m organisation including strategy, positioning and restructures - both physical and organisational.

Designing objectives, monitoring KPIs, writing business cases and post event analysis played a part in my role, as did all aspects of budget management, resource management, negotiations with agencies and event design and execution.

I was solely responsible for programming across all venues, and won awards for my music programming 2 years running at the national Ents Forum Awards.

A very happy 8 years with EUSA came to an end due to me relocating to New Zealand.

The Insider Festival's Strathspey Safari

We are a 3 person team who deliver Scotland's most cherished small, and only roving festival - The Insider Festival, and subsequent events and festivals.

Recent projects include the most celebrated and successful Strathspey Safari - an experimental roving festival; held in August 2015, and August 2016.

Featuring live music, poetry and performance in unusual, adventurous and gloriously scenic locations this is an entirely unique event which blurs the lines between performers and audience, tourism and culture, festival and adventure.

The Strathspey Safari transports audience members and performers around a number of different locations within the Cairngorms National Park, who eventually converge at a secret location for a Safari Ball, with dancing and celebrations into the night.
Varied packages are available from our basic Pioneer package, to Gourmet packages where participants enjoy high quality cuisine in beautiful settings, to our travelologist package where lucky ticket holders upgrade to include accommodation at the stunning Dell of Abernethy.

2016 saw the introduction of The Insider Feast, held the day after the Safari, where a sold out a 5 course, locally sourced fine dining experience. The day also included music from Folk musician of the year Aidan O'Rourke and Kit Downes, and a whisky masterclass supported by Dewars.

The Strathspey Safari 2015 featured in the BBC Documentary The Mountain, which was viewed by over 400,000.

Other Insider events include: A Night at the Theatre (x3) and various one off events including being invited to curate a venue for the official Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations as part of Scot:Lands. Insider:Land attracted over 3000 people on January 1st 2016.

Programming, Production, Logistics

Over a course of an 8 year career with Edinburgh University Students' Association, part of my role as Head of Entertainment and Events was to Project Manage the Freshers' Week Programme and delivery of those events.

Responsible for programming or producing over 400 events within an 8 day Freshers Week, with events ranging in size (30 cap - 1200 cap). With Edinburgh University having an intake of 10,000 annually, events of every genre were programmed and managed with over 100 volunteers being recruited.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

I've worked with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe under a number in guises. In 2008 I was part of the Edinburgh Fringe venues team, working through a tough year that faced multiple box office issues. Since then I've worked alongside Fringe partners as 4 EUSA buildings turn into Fringe venues for August every year with our team hosting all bar, catering, retail and house provisions. These venues are Pleasance Courtyard, Pleasance Dome and Gilded Balloon.

I have worked alongside a number of other Edinburgh Festivals including the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Edinburgh International Science Festival and Edinburgh's Hogmanay.
